Rachel Wiley
OFFICIAL PLEA.

Okay so here is my official plea:

Individually I need to raise $300 to cover my portion of travel and hotel for this year’s National Poetry Slam.
I quit my soul sucking (but decently paying) retail customer service job in June. It may not have been the smartest move but I was literally sobbing before work, sometime during work and often after work because I was completely miserable and feeling unendingly stuck. I had a plan to enroll in school but that fell through due to some paperwork (I still intend to go back to school for Non-Profit Management in the fall providing I clear all the paper hurdles). I have 2nd guessed it over and over again but it was a gamble I needed to take on myself. I have been applying and interviewing (I have an interview tomorrow morning infact at the Columbus Symphony!!). I did pick up a lower paying temporary gig that I rather enjoy but there was some downtown between checks that have made things harder. My wonderful boyfriend is helping me out with containing my day to day costs. He works hard for very little and I am lucky to have him.

I know I have had to panhandle a lot to get to these events but I believe in my art and what I am doing very much…it just doesnt pay the bills yet (I do believe one day it will at least come close). I also want to say how much I appreciate all of my friends and followers that have donated in the past. I dont get to pursue this passion without your help and this passion has saved my life again and again.

And all of this is to say that I need to raise at least $300 to cover my own travel and lodging so if you see fit to help out I am grateful whether that means sending a donation via paypal or just reblogging this.

Donations can be sent here http://wileypoetry.weebly.com/donate.html or my email

Thank you

PS:

If you are in the Columbus, Ohio area I have also been coordinating a fundraiser called RAFFLE MANIA!-it is as the name suggests a raffle and auction of various items and (legal) services. This will take place on July 24th 2012 at Writing Wrongs poetry in the Method Gallery on the corner of Long & 17th. All proceeds will go to the team to lower our travel cost. This is another way to donate-either by coming and bidding on items/purchasing raffle tickets OR donating art, gift card, various (legal)services.
